Introduction
Once you’ve activated an estimate in descon.ai, the associated tasks automatically appear in the project’s timeline. This allows you to visually plan when each task will start, how long it will take, and how tasks relate to one another.
Accessing the Timeline
Open the relevant project and select Timeline from the top navigation bar. If you haven’t set a start date yet, the system will prompt you to choose one for the project. All tasks will initially share the same start date and duration, providing a baseline schedule to begin customizing.
Adjusting Dates and Durations
After setting the project’s start date, you’ll see a Gantt chart displaying every task as a rectangle. To change a task’s duration, click and drag the rectangle’s edges to expand or shorten its length. If you prefer a more direct approach, click on the task, select Edit Task, and adjust its start and end dates or its duration in the dialog box.
Linking Tasks with Dependencies
In a Gantt chart, you can create a finish-to-start dependency by dragging from the end of one task to the start of another. This tells descon.ai that the second task can only begin once the first has completed, helping you manage sequential work effectively.
Viewing Task Status
Each task’s rectangle on the Gantt chart reflects its status through color-coding:
Grey indicates a task is yet to start.
Orange shows a task is in progress.
Green means the task has been completed.
Keeping track of these colors helps you quickly spot where each task stands in the project lifecycle.
Switching to List View
If you prefer a tabular approach, navigate to the List View within the Timeline section. Here, you’ll see columns for planned start and end dates, along with the actual timeline data once work has begun. This view is especially useful if you want a straightforward summary of all tasks without interacting with the Gantt chart.
Note: You can revise a task’s planned dates even after work starts, but keep in mind that changing these details may affect dependent tasks. Always review your updated schedule to ensure it still makes sense for your team’s workflow.
