Introduction
In descon.ai, roles determine what each user can see and do within the platform. Setting these correctly ensures that team members have the right level of access without exposing sensitive information.
1. Accessing Roles
Navigate to Organization in the main menu.
Click Roles.
You’ll see a list of existing roles.
Some roles are preloaded (like Admin), making it easy to start assigning permissions right away.
2. Admins
Admin Role:
Has full access to every module in the platform.
Cannot be edited or deleted.
Ideal for owners, senior managers, or anyone who needs comprehensive control.
3. Creating a Custom Role
Need a tailored set of permissions?
Click Add New Role on the Roles page.
Give your role a unique name (e.g., “Project Manager,” “Finance Lead”).
Assign Read and Write permissions for each module.
Read = View the data in that module (Estimates, Timelines, Tasks, etc.).
Write = Edit or modify data in that module.
When finished, click Create to finalize the new role.
4. Managing Role Permissions
In Organization > Roles, you can also:
View current permissions for each role.
Edit a role’s permissions (except Admin).
Delete custom roles that are no longer needed.
If a user is assigned to a role you delete, they may lose platform access. Always confirm no active users rely on that role before removing it.
5. Resource Catalogue vs. Roles
Roles: Control permissions within descon.ai (what users can or cannot do).
Resource Catalogue (found in Repository > Resource Catalogue): Defines resource types for your projects (e.g., Architect, Engineer, Contractor) and their hourly cost.
